Methods for CNC Cutting Processes

  Generally, before performing a cut, a CNC cutting machine requires the completion of drawing and editing/processing of the cutting process. To ensure workpiece quality, piercing points (i.e., ignition points) are typically not placed directly on the workpiece contour. Instead, they are positioned slightly away from the contour—specifically, at a distance that allows the machine to traverse a short segment of cutting path before entering the actual workpiece outline. This segment is commonly referred to as the cutting lead-in or entry line. The length of the CNC sponge cutting machine's lead-in line is determined by the material thickness and the cutting method employed; generally speaking, the lead-in length increases as the material thickness grows.

  When arranging the introduction lines, please note the following points:

  1. The lead-in wire should be as short as possible without compromising the piercing and cutting processes, and its direction should align as closely as possible with the running direction of the cutting machine. During piercing, any molten slag that may splash should be directed away from the cutting machine—specifically, toward the opposite direction from which the machine initially starts moving.

  2. Arrangement of the introduction wire when cutting the workpiece cavity

  ① Direct lead-in lines are the most commonly used in practical and diverse applications, but they often leave behind a small indentation and a tiny tail at the start and end points of the cut. When the internal cavity is square, the lead-in line typically enters from one of the corners; for circular cavities, there are usually no specific requirements.

  ② For circular lead-outs, if higher-quality cutting points are required, it's best to use circular lead-outs.

  ③ When cutting the workpiece contour, straight lead-in lines are typically used.

  ④ When designing the lead-in lines, it's also important to minimize material waste as much as possible, sometimes requiring consideration of nesting strategies.
